GCC Research Program

GCC -- Research Program (GRP) is a newly established program, which crystallized in May 2016. The program’s founding members are representatives of the Universities of Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Oman, joining hands to form a regional consortium, as a strategic move for enhancing collaborative research. The program opens a window of opportunity for experts, specialists and researchers from GCC universities and research institutions, to pursue advanced and innovative research in areas of strategic priorities and regional concerns that discover new knowledge, develop resources, and spur the spirit of entrepreneurship. The program instils the values of shared expertise and experiences, bringing together researchers from across the GCC universities, in the common pursuit of basic and applied sciences research. 

The program’s key objectives are to develop potentialities and indigenous human resource, enhance collaboration, create research networks, optimize infrastructural and resource utilization, encourage postgraduate scholarship with opportunities for students and researchers exchange. The program primarily rests on the fundamental principle of collaboration and shared expertise through effective utilization of available resources for scientific advancement, laying the basis for developing a knowledge-based economy that benefits the GCC region. 

Participation in the program is encouraged from GCC institutions, with annual approval granted up to four projects. The projects are to be co-funded by participating institutions, over a maximum duration of three years. The budgetary range of such projects would oscillate between US$ 80,000 - 240,000. The annual submission of project progress report(s) is mandatory, and tied to release of next year’s budget. The project outputs are immensely significant and measurable in terms of publications listed in ranked journals with an impact factor. 

Researchers from GCC universities are eligible to participate in the joint research program. The proposals are to be submitted on standard Application Form(s), essential requirements of which are available on the GCC- Research Program website at the link below

All applications undergo the standard review process, prior to grant approval. The evaluation criteria for proposals includes:

• Research Significance
• Originality
• Methodology
• Impact
• Training
• Research Teams Credentials 

The project’s intellectual property rights (IPs) are jointly owned by the participating institutions, as per terms of GCC Co-Funding agreement, including the revenue sharing. 

Important Timelines:
• Project Application Submission -- June 30 to October 10, 2016
• Awards notification -- Early November 2016
• Starting Date -- December 1, 2016

A collaborative project in partnership with Qatar University ,King Saud University , Kuwait University, Sultan Qaboss University and Bahrein Kingdom University 

 

2. “Medical Wild Herbs in Qatar and the Gulf: A Historical-Pharmacological Approach”

Involving collaboration of Qatar University , Sultamn Qaboos University and Al-Qassim University.
